Stainless Steel Hot Pot, medium size #142325

Zebra Hot Pot, first ingredient for a great party
This hot pot is very well made and works wonderfully for shabu shabu. Gathering friends around the simmering pot of broth to cook thinly sliced meats and veggies at the table is the perfect way to throw a party. However, the product has a few drawbacks.
First, there are virtually no instructions in English other than charmingly translated cautions that persons who lack common sense should not be allowed to use the pot. There is a cap for the central chimney, and a small graphic on the label shows when NOT to use it. However, the caption is in Thai. For an American with no experience in this cuisine, an instruction booklet in English, including a couple of recipes, would have been nice.
Second, the slots in the base in which you insert fuel are too small for standard cans of Sterno. You have to spoon the Sterno gel into the small pan provided with the pot, a messy and potentially hazardous job. Of course, there are other fuel options, but without instructions, I didn't know...

Nice Quality Hot Pot
This is a very attractive, heavy duty stainless steel hot pot. What I wanted to know when I ordered it, and the description didn't tell me, is how much does it hold? If you fill it almost to the brim, it will hold 2 quarts of liquid. That would be awfully full considering you want to get it bubbling, so probably 6 cups is ideal for this pot. I cook the soup before adding to the hot pot. I found that using Sterno, it kept it warm but not hot. Then I put the chimney cap on (it has a little hole in it) and found it will keep the soup simmering. If you have noodles in your broth, they will stick to the chimney when it this hot, but not if you leave the cap off. Sterno is a bit fume-y. But it sure is nice having the soup staying warm at the table.

Won't boil :(
Won't boil well....wanted for family of 4 hot pot....not very good. Might be okay for a family of one. thanks
