I have had one that I bought some time ago to keep in our electric kettle. Before I got it, even though we use filtered water, I was using vinegar in the kettle almost every week. Since I started keeping this little thing in my kettle, about a year ago, I haven't had to stink up the house even once. It works by providing more surface area for the scale to settle on. It doesn't pour out with the water because it's blocked by the grate at the spout. I imagine it doesn't get all the hard water deposits, but in my experience it works!
Not the magic solution I was after
Doesn't really do anything. Reverted to plain old scrubbing instead, which was far more effective.
Piece of junk
This doesn't work for anything. All it is is a tiny piece of steel wool. I have used it in my tea kettle almost everyday since it arrived a week late, and the tea kettle has the scum all over the bottom and sides of it. Waste of money. I can't return it as I received it a week late, and they go by the expected delivery date instead of 30 days from receipt.
